David Bailey- 50 years in Vogue

He is a real rags to riches story, and went from living in East End London as a child where he was born in 1938 during World War 2 where he says during the winter his family "would take bread-and-jam sandwiches and go to the cinema every night because in those days it was cheaper to go to the cinema than to put on the gas fire. I'll bet I saw seven or eight movies a week" to becoming the photographer whose images defined the Swinging Sixties.
His images, my favourites the fashion photographs he made whilst working at Vogue, just ooze simplicity and his story shows how talent and ambition can pay off.
These photos speak for themselves but the man behind them is equally inspirational.

Photos 1+2- the truly beautiful Jean Shrimpton

3+4- Catherine Deneuve and who he later married. Lucky man, as shown in the wonderful 4th photo.
Hope you are all having a good start to the week and good luck to everyone else who is doing exams!

To clog or not to clog? That is the question...
Ever since they were seen at the Spring Summer 2010 Chanel collection and then on the front cover of British Vogue in the Alexa Chung photo shoot (see above and last photo) they have been gradually seeping down from the high end to the high street and infiltrating normal peoples wardrobes. And I really don't know how to feel about this.
Pictured below are my mum's old pair of clogs-which fit me so I could theoretically wear them- but I really don't think I will be making a public appearance in them any time soon.
To start with what do you wear with them? (I am not going to kid myself that I can pull off the double-denim look like Alexa below)
Anyone got any ideas?
Has anyone seen clogs EVER pulled off well?
And more importantly has anyone seen them be pulled off on a mere mortal, not just on a supermodel?
What a tricky trend. Lets just send them back to the Chanel runway where they came from, hmm?

British Vogue's Lobster Earrings. Yes really.
Dear British Vogue,
On the back page “One Last Thing” section of latest March issue you said “we'd like these ruby earrings part of Georgina Chapman's dazzling new collection for Garrard."
Now when you lovely people at Vogue say you are lusting after something I usually am quick to jump on your bandwagon too but this is an exception.
Were you hallucinating/asleep/under the influence/intoxicated in any way when they wrote this?
They look like LOBSTERS.
And very expensive lobster lookalikes as well at £12,500.
What were you thinking?
However it was an amazing issue- Nick Knight AND Tim Walker my two favourite fashion photographs in one issue?! You spoil me.
But if you want a tip for pulling off ‘Lobster Chic’ then here is Isabella Blow doing it like a pro, follow her lead; wear one on your head, not a lookalike dangling off your lobes.

That’s all.*
Your biggest fan,
Beth Ruby Lambert
*Meryl Streep/Anna Wintour Devil Wears Prada reference. In case you didn’t already get that. Which of course you did.
